Digital Futures is a special event organised in partnership by the Victoria & Albert Museum and EVA (Electronic Visualisation and the Arts) Conference London. It is focused on showcasing cutting edge projects by researchers, artists, designers, companies and other professionals working with art, technology, design, science and beyond. The organizers invited us to present a research project mixing art, culture and digital innovations.
We developed an innovative research project on “Real-time Messaging Platforms for Storytelling and Gamification in Museums” in which we explored how museums used apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or Telegram to interact with their users. We then conduceted an experiment in partnership with the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan using an automated chatbot to guide visitors inside the Museum. The results were discussed with other researchers during the Digital Futures event and then published on the EVA Conference print proceedings.
The results of the experiment were so encouraging that we were asked to develop a production version for 4 house museums in Milan: the Museum chatbot game project we launched in 2017.
